View Full Version : So I got a phone.......

Went and got a "smart" phone yesterday. I have never been so aggravated by anything as much as I am with this thing. I HATE it. It may go back tomorrow. I'll relax a little and try again. The bastards don't even give you a user manual with it.

LOL...
Sounds like me about 5 yrs ago. Came within a quick blink from launching the thing out the truck window at 70 mph.
Now, I couldn't live without my iPhone.
Yes, frustrating at first but the learning curve is a short one.

Agee, doesn't take much time to learn. Just ask a 4 year these days. Lol... My 15 month old grand daughter watches video on my daughters already. Knows how to tun it on and swipe already to get to where the pictures are. Unbelievable.

FlintTony

Well, I can answer it when it makes the noise that says I have a call. Tried texting, but the thing that makes up words was driving me nuts. Kathy went online and got that stupid thing shut off. The online instructions assume that I know what all this shit means. I haven't a clue yet.

I was almost there too Bill. Was about to smash it when Kathy took it away from me.

Ray, I'll see if one of the neighbors kids will give me some help with it. I'm pretty sure they will know how it works.

Hank70SS
10-19-2015, 08:03 AM
Ask Kathy if she can take some videos of you trying to use your phone, I'd love to see them.

You'll get use to it Tony then you'll be glad you got it. Texting on mine is so easy. Type one or two letters and it pops up several words to choose from. Select one of them and it pops up a list of what the next word could be. I can send a complete sentence without spelling out one complete word. Hang in there, it's a brave new world.

Complete sentences and spell words it does. This is why we have a generation that can not spell. It's amazing how many kids can't spell or do basic math. They don't exercise their brains anyone.

This phone is a "Brigadier". Some heavy duty construction phone. I think I saw somewhere on it "Android". All I want to do is use the phone part, make pictures, and send the text things. I figure when I can see the weather, like Ric can, then I've got it whipped.

Im sure one day I will be forced to get one of those but Im in no hurry ,I hear they will do everything but wipe your rear though.

That's probably a good thing. Wouldn't want a phone to wipe my rear then have to put it to my face to make a phone call.

They can do a lot of things. It's a better GPS than my Garmin GPS. Takes great pictures and videos. Scan a barcode in a store and get the price of that item in other stores and online. I have RV road assistance for the motorhome. Click on the app and it will request road service and use the GPS to let them know exactly where I'm at. The list goes on and on. I don't use all those things, at least not on a regular basis. I do like the blue tooth connection to the car. No fumbling for the phone if it rings, just hit the touchscreen in the car to answer.

FlintTony

This thing hates me as much as I hate it. My wife and brother touch the screen and it does what they want. It stalls out or goes to some unknow place when I touch it. Itried mashing it to no avail.

I know nothing about Android phones, Apple is for us old folks. Relax and just play with it and you will get it, start with baby steps like using the phone and then pictures, then text and so on and so on...pretty soon you will be our weather man at car shows.

[QUOTE=RBeckman;59194]Well remember Tony is still watching VHS tapes[/QUOTE

And still listening to my 8 track tape machine, although sometimes I use that newfangled cassette tape.

I would like to put some pictures up here from Florida, but my beloved flip phone got turned off and I am still too stupid to make pictures and send them. I can build a Harley engine with my eyes closed (almost), but haven't figured this electornic shit out yet. I would just as soon smash the stinking smart-ass phone as try to use it.

My last phone was dying. It was a computer deal. Camera stopped working and it was re-booting in the middle of calls. So I had to get and learn another one yesterday.

It a whole new ball game even just switching phones.

FlintTony
11-03-2015, 06:48 PM
Good luck Ken. I just spent 2 weeks in Florida. That stinkin new phone "locked up" on me twice. My fault the first time. I was trying to set up a password. The second time, I have no idea. It kept asking for my SIM_PUK number. How in the hell am I supposed to know what the is? I called the place I bought it from, using my brothers land-line, and he couldn't tell me what to do to make it work again. I called the wife, she went to Verizon on the computer and figured it out. Phone was the most aggravating thing I've ever dealt with. I did make some pictures with it though.

Well knowing Tony for over 10 years this will be a challenge as he hates technology. Ask him about putting points in place of the MSD ignition in the Nomad. Hell he even disconnect the clock in the Camaro I bought from him because it was high tech.

FlintTony
11-04-2015, 07:45 PM
The stinkin clock again huh? Well, heres one for you and that stinkin clock. I get down to Florida, fire up the Ford van, and BAMM, the stinkin clock won't work. Every time I shut the key off, the stinkin digital bastard goes back to 12:00. I hate digital stuff too. Give me back my cables and knobs! And the stinkin digital clock that I bought in Florida has an alarm that goes off every stinkin day at 9.09. I can't get it to stop doing it. I'm gonna have to smash it.

I went to the Verizon place today, where I bought the phone. They kid that works there taught me more in 15 minuets than I learned on my own in over 2 weeks. I went in there last year to get a phone so I could listen to music on the plane. Same kid said my old flip phone could play music. Led me in the right direction and I got it working. Sorta. I had to have him show me how to get it to play. He liked all my old music, so I lent him the CD"S that it's on. He showed me the microphone thing on the smart phone. That thing is crazy. I can ask it how to get home and it tells me! I can ask if the tacos are any good at Heysuses place and it tells me "no, don't go there". Still gotta learn an easier way to get pictures in the Florida build post here. Right now I email them from the phone to my email, click on the new message, click on the picture, click save as, type in what the picture is, then it goes to my documents. Then I have to go to photobucket, do all the sign in shit, go back and find the pictures in my documents, send them to photobucket one at a time, open this site on a different tab, go to the thread, minimize it, go back to photo, figure out how to copy, come back to minimized tread, and click the copy thing. Man, there has to be an easier way. If any of you guys have the answer, I'd appreciate it.

Maybe you should just get prints made of the photos and mail a copy of them to each of us. Sounds a lot easier.

If you have micro-usb to regular usb cable, many phone chargers use them, you can just plug your phone into your computer and move the file anywhere you want.

Tony, we're heading to Fl first week of January. If all goes we'll be heading back first week or so of April. We'll be stopping in Ocala both times. Hopefully we can hook up and get to see your place. Weather will dictate when we head south but we're flexible otherwise. A few days coming or going is not a big deal. Would really like to see what you've put together.

So when I was in Florida, Bank Of America calls me to see if I had authorized a new user on my credit card. Hell no, I haven't. Turns out that I'm now a victim of identity theft. What a pain in the ass this has become. Macy's called today to verify that I applied for a CC online with them. Again, hell no. I have gotten a fraud alert on my name and social. That's why they called. I joined that LifeLock thing. Pain in the ass to list all my cards and accounts with them. I hate people.

Last night I was in the kitchen. I hear someone talking. The phone was setting on the stand in the living room on the charger. I'm like "WTF is that"? I go into the living room and there is a guy from a survey taking place that is speaking on my phone. It didn't ring, but it was on and I picked it up and started talking to the guy. How in the hell can this be? He was able to listen to me just like it rang and I answered it. This I do not like at all.

Yep, same thing Kathy said when she heard the guy talking. We went out for a steak dinner tonight. Ordered the rib-eye. When the waitress brought it out and set it down, she said go ahead and cut it and see if it's done right. I attempted to cut it. It was the toughest steak that I have ever seen. I had her try to cut it, She sawed her way about half way through and quit. Took it to the manager. She couldn't cut it either. I'm going to make some toast. Hard to wreck toast.

10:15 next Tuesday for the root canal. Doesn't hurt anymore, antibiotics took care of that. Not looking forward to the root canal but had one done by this group of Docs a few years back. Doc and his assistant where like robots, wham, bam, thank you mam. Oh, that will be around $1,000, thanks.

Worst part is that tooth has a cap. So they'll drill the cap, do the root canal and send me on my way. Then I have to go to my dentist to have whatever crap they stuff in there pulled out and the cap sealed up. Don't have time for this crap. I can't believe how much shit I have to do and I'm retired, you'd think I'd have plenty of time. Oh, and 5 minutes ago Lynda asks about going to Henry's house tomorrow to help him with some more shit. Sure, I got nothing but time. Spent most every weekend at his house this year, what's another day.

A grand for a root canal....then more for another dentist...your geting taken.
Check into going to costa rica for your dental work.
Nice hotel..owned by the dentist...and will cost you less than half that.
My wife had 25 grand in the USA implants done for under 6 grand down there.
Check it out.

Not worth going to Costa Rica from MI for one root canal. For multiple implants, sure, but not one root canal.

I don't know Bill. Our daughter is in Thailand right now. A little vacation with some friends. T-Mobile gave her the unlock code for her phone so she could buy and install a prepaid sim card over there. A lot cheaper than paying T-Mobile international rates.

Yeah Hank, I deal with this all the time. Will be heading back to Europe next Wed night, in fact.

I've got an account with a mobile phone company in the UK. I simply swap SIM cards in my iPhone from the Verizon one to the Mobal one. Changes my phone over to a UK number and all calls, texts, ect are charged on a per use/minute basis. All my Contacts remain in the phone.
No monthly service costs.

Works well...been doing this for years even while traveling outside the US when I worked. Mobal bills my Debit card.

Well, that didn't work. This POS answered itself twice today. I changed the setting back to "on" and it answered itself again. It's going back to the phone joint in the morning. The way it is, someone could hear all my conversations when the POS does it.

More phone drama. It kept answering itself when I was down south, then it wouldn't send any pictures or email. It would made 6 ding sounds about every 30 seconds, then "sending failed" would show up on the screen. Every stinking 30 seconds until I shut it off. I took it to a Verizon dealer. He said the SIM card was bad, so he changed it at a cost of 22 bucks. It is supposed to be under warranty, but because I was from out of town, he gave me some bullshit about getting a refund from my phone store. That fixed the email, but still answered itself. Took it to the place that I bought it from today. He did a "wipe" of the thing. Lost all the pictures that I just took in Florida. They are in the 'cloud", but I have no clue as to how to get them back.
