Factory Air or Aftermarket?

I have a 72 Chevelle convertible with no factory air. I am going to install air and trying to decide which way to go. Any inside on aftermarket kits?

Just my experience. Unless you just got to have factory looking air. Aftermarket is way way cheaper.
My car had factory air. But it was missing dash parts when I got it. I paid 900 dollars for a totalled El Camino to get it from. Then recondition it all and install it. I already way over what aftermarket unit cost and it isn't done yet. Firewall and inside is done tho.
I hear good things about Vintage Air units tho.

EDIT; nice typing Fred Flintstone

Getting harder to use old factory equipment any more. Aftermarket is the way to go. way cheaper.

X2 for vintage air

I have both Vintage and Classic Auto Air in two of my old cars. Regardless of what you choose, the biggest thing you can do is go through and seal up any and all sources of hot air! Use some sort of heat resistant matting on the floor, firewall, etc. Keeping the heat out is the biggest hurdle!

That's good advice Flemiing23. Thanks to all you guys. Aftermarket it is!

The after market system works better then the complicated factory system..

chevymaher 06-25-2017 07:01 PM

What is complicated about it? It is as cave man as it gets. And R-12 systems work much better.

I went with the Classic Air because it has a separate heater core and evaporator.
