1969 Dash Removal

Is removing the dash on a 1969 Chevelle Malibu difficult and do you need any special tools. I can see that my dash is missing one of the bolts that hold it to the body and can see a gap. I want to remove the dash pad so I can see what happened to the screw holding the dash.

Not sure as mine is a 70. It has screws that go up in the front of the dash and hold the dash pad down. Once those screws are removed you can lift the dash pad up and slide it out. It has springs clips that hold the other side, at the windshield, down. They slide into the metal framework inside the windshield. Don't remember but the A pillar covers may have to be removed as well to slide the pad out. Once the dash pad is removed you can see what holds the dash itself on.

Disclaimer: Not sure if any of the above will apply to a 69.

Thanks for the information.

It is the same as my 68. Steering column has to drop down. Remove all the screws you see around the edge. Couple metal braces in the back screwed to the back of the instrument cluster. No special tools mainly a Phillips screwdriver and tiny socket set. Once it drops down you can access the wiring from top and bottom.

Removing the dash pad will not reveal much, it's all steel under there.. I had my 69 El Camino all apart 2 years ago..

Were is the gap? Mine always had a weird gap on the far left...

Thanks for posting the pictures. I may not have to remove the dash pad to see why the screw that holds the instrument cluster is missing. The cluster has moved away from the stamped metal leaving a gap.
