Tall Ball Joints

I'm thinking about installing tall upper and lower ball joints, and my question is, by going with both upper and lower will i get bump steer the same as if I had tall spindle or is it best to go with just one are the other?

OK, here's my chance to maybe learn something...

1) I recently had an extended email conversation with an old time frame mechanic who in essence talked me out of going the tall spindle/tall ball joint route. He claimed that the greatest problem was frame misalignment. He knew the frame specs and dimensions of our 64-72 A Frames by heart. On his advice I purchased a set of specs for my '65 frame, and lo and behold, my frame is out of spec. My front frame horns are 1 1/2" too narrow: my upper control A arm "towers" are over an inch narrow. He spoke of inherent weakness of our main front cross member allowing it to sag, narrowing the front end of the frame, and throwing steering geometry out of spec. That was his opinion...

2) What do you hope to accomplish by going the tall spindle/tall ball joints? I had heard stories of improving under-steer tendencies?

3) I can't tell from your question... do you WANT "bump steer?" When I was into 4-wheeling, we always tried to avoid and get rid of bump steer.

Tall balljoints will fix the bumpsteer.

Factory spindles have some bumpsteer because the steer arm is too low. B-body "tall spindles" place it even lower... tall balljoints move it upward about 1/2" which is nearly perfect for eliminating bumpsteer.

As for the above reply, here's the "why" on tall spindles or balljoints... http://chevelleforum.org/showthread.php?t=5
