rust on ceramic headers

hello. I have a 69 Malibu with 350 that threw a rod last weekend and is currently out of the car to get worked on.

the headers, are ceramic, but I noticed spots of surface rust. I would like to do something before I have them put back on once engine is done, can I take like SOS pad or light sandpaper to rub that rust off, or am I doing more harm than good on doing that?
thaks

I would not use sandpaper or an SOS pad. I would use some very fine steel wool(000 or more) and some WD40. Spray a little WD on the wool and a little on the header. Works real good for cleaning chrome too.

The problem with coated headers is they are rusted before
the coating is applied.
I had the same problem with headman lifetime waranty headers.
When i called them i was told thats what you get in florida....your on your own.
Try some HOOKER stainless steel headers.

Another vote for 0000 steel wool. Wetsanding is pretty aggressive.

Stainless won't rust but it will discolor from the heat.

Try Must for Rust. I have an aluminum intake, it had rust speckles all over after sitting in the garage over the first winter. Obviously had some iron in it. Anyway, used must for rust on it. It cleaned up the rust and it hasn't happened again. It's supposed to do something to the iron so it won't rust again.
