My '71 Returns

Just got it back within the last week from body/paint after 8 months. VERY pleased with it. Code 26 Mulsanne Blue base coat / clear coat. The only body panels that were replaced were the left & right lower rear quarters and the trunk floor pan. Everything else original to the car, even saved the driver's side front fender which had a pretty severe wrinkle.

Still have a few things to do, replace the 4 wheel well moldings, after the new paint the originals just don't measure up. New lower rocker moldings,(same thing), fix the cut up radio area and then Vintage Air to replace the trashed factory A/C.

Converted from bench seat and tilt column auto to factory buckets, floor shift tilt, horse shoe shifter with Shiftworks OD indicator for the swapped in "built" 700R4. 350 V8 with Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, Edelbrock 600cfm #1406 carb, dual exhaust, added power discs and re-built front suspension, new rubber body bushings/bolts, dual exhaust w/ Thrush turbo mufflers. New carpet, cloth interior, new windshield. 15x7 & 15x8 rallies, 225/70s & 255/70s. Waiting to hear back on the insurance appraisal.

There are those who will say it can't be an SS with the sweep dash but really don't care. This is what I would have bought had I been able to afford it when I came back from Viet Nam in 1970. At $2.65 an hour back then buying a $4,000 car just wasn't going to happen. Not planning on selling any time, car will go to my son when I'm gone and thru enjoying my toy, LOL.

Sorry for the long post but really looking forward to enjoying and cruising in my new, old Chevelle.

Appreciate the comments. I in no way consider the car as a Barrett/Jackson restoration but then if it was I would be afraid to take it for a drive, LOL. Just wanted a nice driver for the wife and I to cruise in. Gave it a rinse and a chamois wipe yesterday and then took it out for ice cream at the local Braum's Dairy. Love the sound of the pipes, have to since don't have a stereo installed yet. Wife wants some oldies rock as we cruise so guess that needs to be a priority, huh? I put a RetroSound Hermosa radio in mine and I love it. It has a USB hookup so you can play your music off of a Flashdrive. Also has 2 more jacks for CD player, Ipod, MP3 player, DVD player or whatever ya got. Plus it has hookup for a Amp. It bolts right in so you don't have to alter anything.

Car looks awesome! I totally agree with you on having something that you'll enjoy driving instead of having a garage/trailer queen.

I say... make it the way you want it...

I Love your car...
Mine is a LOOOOOONG way from where yours is....
