Hey you Michiganians...

...look whats made it's way (legally) to GA.
Originally a Wayne Co PD sidearm that was purchased from an Arms Trade-In vendor. Smith & Wesson Model 65-3 |
Very nice. I knew I liked you guys... Chevelles and firearms, two of my favorite things.
|
Very Cool, Wayne County is the largest County in Michigan, it is also the County where Detroit is located. Actually I think Ken and the Grumpy's live in Wayne County am I correct guys?
|
Nice score Bill. I have a S&W model 67 no dash, .38 Special version of the same gun, both stainless S&W K frames. It's amazing to handle a gun like that then a modern semi-auto. No wonder a used model 67 costs more than a lot of new semi-auto's.
We went to the range a few months ago when our daughter Susan was in town. She shot the 9MM and 22 but liked the 38 best. She was also more accurate with it than the others and she's a whopping 4'11" and change. This is Lynda shooting the 38. http://chevelleforum.org/album.php?a...pictureid=4686 http://chevelleforum.org/album.php?a...pictureid=4686 |
Great pic Hank...looks like a nice outdoor range.
Yeah, I've got a couple large frame Smiths already...model 29-3 and a Model 66-5 both in 4" and one of my favorites...a J frame Model 638. I'm old school I guess...always slightly favored a shorter barreled revolver. And when this Trade-in became available at a price I couldn't pass on, I grabbed it. Got it home and researched the Wayne Co marking. Then thought about y'all here. |
Range is in a state rec are a few miles from our house. $10 and you can shoot all day. Ric and I went there one afternoon and we were the only ones on the range. Nice cause you change targets when you want instead of when they call it.
Sounds like a nice collection Bill. I like the 38, just wish ammo didn't cost twice as much as 9MM ammo. I lived in Wayne county most of my life, until 14 yrs ago when we moved here. I think the Grumpy's live in Berkley, Oakland County, borders Wayne County. How's that Taurus, what do you think? I was looking at the Ruger LC9S but have been busy with other stuff, haven't been to the range since Susan was here in August. |
Ric, you are correct on saying Wayne is the largest (in population) county in Michigan. I live in Wayne but Dave & Nancy live in Oakland county as they are north of 8 Mile Rd.
|
Hank, my folks both EDC Ruger LC9s. They like them for the minimum bulk. I am stuck on my G30 SF for my EDC.

Been shooting the hell out of that bargain Taurus PT111 G2 that I told you about...probably have run over 1K rounds thru it...ZERO issues!!
Like the relatively compact size and the 12 rd mag capacity. I'd put it up against a Glock anyday. Not bad for a $199 gun that also had a $50 rebate. |
And we're leaving for Europe on Wednesday evening...wish I could pack it...
|
Keep your eyes open and stay safe Bill.
|
Agreed, stay vigilant and return home safe.
|
Thanks y'all.
|
Bill ,you and Anne have a safe trip and tell Liz and Liam hello from us .
|
Will do John.
Changed our plans...fly to Dublin tomorrow night (Tuesday)...hang out there for a couple days and then fly to Barcelona. Need to be boarding a cruise ship there by Sunday afternoon. Should be stopping in Florence/Pisa T-giving Day. Back home in two weeks. |
Sounds like a nice trip Bill, enjoy. Guess I didn't need to say that, I'm sure you will.
|
I am truly blessed and thankful for it!!
Both of us are retired, in reasonably good health, and living comfortably. |

http://chevelleforum.org/picture.php...pictureid=4806 Spent the Memorial Day weekend up north and my son asked me to bring the 38, reminded me of this post. We shot a number of guns but everybody that shot the 38 said "Man I like that gun!" Guess I'll have to take more 38 ammo next time. Had a great time. Ate a lot of good food, drank a lot of beer and used our Hillbilly chain saw, AKA guns, to bring down a 8" diameter tree. Good stuff. |
S&W revolvers are THE best!! And my favorites...
What model is that K frame...64?? |
It's a model 67 Bill. Those aren't the stock grips for that gun. I still have them and the box from back in the 70's when I bought it.
|
Nice!!!

Bill ,once I get my carry permit I may need your help picking out a gun. Hope to do this soon.

Opps had to do that...lol |

In GA you don't need a CCW permit to purchase and keep a handgun at home or inside any of your vehicles. A simple, free background check is all that's required if the purchase is made from a dealer. Private sales between individuals don't require anything other than proof of residency and a verbal statement that the buyer is legal to own a firearm. But, I'd be glad to help you when your ready to purchase. In fact, I've got a variety for you to "sample". ;) |
Bill, Im going to get a conceiled carry permit ,then the gun. Im just waiting on the final Dr bills before I can spend the $$ .
|
3K60,470 That fits in the 1971 and 1972 range? I know it's the first model 67, no dash. Pinned, tapered barrel, stainless sites. There are also model 67-1 through I think 67-5. They changed the rear sites to blued. They added white inlay to the front sites. Straight barrel, blued hammer, etc.
|
Correct...67 no dash had stainless sites.
I'm a BIG S&W revolver fan...K & J frames mostly in stainless but some nickel. Matter of fact, got the Jinks letter from Smith in yesterday's mail on my 1943 Victory...shipped from S&W factory in Jan 1943...delivered to the Oregon Ship Builders. Was some shipyard guard's gun during WWII. |

Just stay out of IL, NY and most New England states.... https://www.usconcealedcarry.com/w11...1111000111.gif |
Thanks for the map Bill ,that was going to be one of my questions about where I could legally carry .Can you carry at all in the red states ?
|
Red states are a No-no.
As mentioned, SC and VA will soon change to "blue" with recent legislation. I also have a Utah non-res and a NY resident CCW permits which allows me to carry in a few more. https://www.usconcealedcarry.com/w11...1111110111.gif |
I'm in a blue state, one of the reasons I got a CPL (concealed pistol license) so I could carry while traveling. In Michigan it's called a CPL because it's for a pistol only, no tasers, sawed off shotguns, etc. I don't carry around here, don't feel a need to, but I don't want any hassles when traveling. Never know where you may be when you have a break down, better safe than sorry. I try to avoid red states or just pass through. It's legal to transport through any state, federal law, so long as you're legal in your starting and destination states. Just don't stop except for gas, rest area etc. NJ is one of the worst, I'll never travel through there. You also have to follow their laws, which usually means the gun can't be loaded or accessible.

Just to update the SC CCW info...law signed by Haley this morning...very big deal here in neighboring GA.

Good to know ,we go to North and South Carolina quite often.
|
So my son called today. Wanted to know what model my gun was. I had to explain that it's a model 67 which is a K frame and there are different model K frames. Then there are different frames which also have various models and different calipers. Anyway he thinks he needs a gun like mine because it was so nice to shoot. We've only shot 9mm together until Memorial day when he shot the 38.
|
Just to give him an idea...
This week I bought a S&W Model 64-3 4" barrel (.38) ...complete with original target "football" grips, box, & papers. This Smith was made in 1981 and is in excellent mechanical & physical condition. Paid $450 for it... Even if he doesn't want stainless...the older Model 15 are excellent shooters and the 4" barrel versions are easy to find. |
I did mention the blued version as an option as well as some of the other models. He'll just have to look around and see what he likes and what he can find.
|
Hey Bill, picked up a Remington RM380 couple weeks ago. $239 before a $100 rebate from Remington. Of course this week they dropped the price to $229 so my son bought one. Nice little 380 pocket gun. No polymer frame, all aircraft aluminum frame and 2 mags. No safety, DA only. Good reviews except for the long heavy trigger pull but Galloway makes a spring kit for it. Also picked up a Ruger SR22 from a friend of my son. He bought it for his wife, she never fired it and they got divorced. He just wanted it gone so I got that for $175 with 2 mags. Since I bought the 22 for Lynda I guess I can still look around for another gun for me.
|
Wish the 50 state reciprocity bill had passed. I have put off doing some traveling because of the current laws. Still carrying my Gen 3 G30 SF, almost 6 years now. Very comfortable and familiar with it. I have pistol carbine the same caliber, that shares mags, as my truck gun.
