SBC engine codes. What is it?
What size is this engine and where did it come from? I asked this question on another site and no one came up with a definitive answer.
Casting code http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/c...ockCasting.jpg Casting date code http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/c...s/CastCode.jpg Stamp code http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/c...BlockStamp.jpg |
By the casting #, it's a 283. The date code appears to be October 7th, 1964. (K = 10th month, 7 = 7th day, 4 = 1964)
Here's where things get weird, the XF code stamped on the pad references to a 1969 350 2bbl, 255HP, with a powerglide. The other characters don't follow any traditional GM pattern, other than the F at the beginning. |
I'm looking at this way .... It's unlikely that someone would fake this casting # and date but it is possible that they would change the stamping # (why...?). So this does seem to be a 283 engine made in 1964. Thanx for tryin!
