Thinking about 18's

1 Attachment(s)
I sort of like the torq thrust M rims. Was thinking about 18's all the way around. Would like to stuff as much tire out back as possible. What widths do you think ?

Derek69SS 03-02-2010 08:24 PM

'72, correct? Are the rear lips rolled or trimmed? Rear suspension stock?

With careful measurements, you can fit a 11" wide rim with a 315 if your suspension is tight enough to not have any lateral axle movement, and the lips are rolled.

10" with a 295 is a little easier to accomplish.

Rear suspension is

Hotchkis 1 inch lowering coils
Bilstein shocks
UMI lower arms
UMI adjustable uppers arms
UMI control arm braces
UMI 1 inch solid sway bar

Front is

stock a arms
new ball joints
rebuilt front end kit
Bilsteins
Hitchkis 1 inch lower springs

Considering a sway bar up front and a new quick ratio steering box.
The lips of the fenders are not rolled.

What would you suggest ? Thanks

Dave

Would 18X10 for the back and 18X8 work up front ? If so how much rubber can be fitted to them ? Thanks

grumpy 03-13-2010 12:30 PM

What back spacing would I need to run 18X10's in out back ?

Derek69SS 03-13-2010 04:05 PM

5.5" would center a 10" rim with a rolled lip...
A lot of guys run 11" rims with 6 to 6.25" backspace, so you could gain some room by running around 6" if you don't want to roll the lips.

Did you get them? Any pictures?

Did you ever get the 18's Grumpy?

I just found this on craigslist. One hell of a deal for a complete package!

Those would look nice on a Chevelle

fst64_v8power 09-17-2010 06:07 PM

those look good!

grumpy 09-17-2010 08:49 PM

I like those, but would want them in black.

Getting to the point where id like to get the rims. Problem is I cannot make up my mind between the Boss 338 or Torq thrust M. Another one I'm hung up on is 17's or 18's, not sure which to go with. Is there any advantage to one or the other ? Thanks

Dave

Have you thought of going with 18's in the rear and 17's in the front?

grumpy 10-18-2010 09:37 AM

I have been thinking about 17-18's

Here's mine with Boss 338's, 18 X 8 245-45-18 frt, 18 X 9.5 295-45-18 rear, and my custom center caps. Been on my car since 2009, really like them.

Old thread, but the wheels do look nice on the vert! I like the center caps too. Small, subtle touches make all the difference.

I have been really debating ordering some 18" Forgelines for my car but they are super expensive - and are becoming more common place it seems which is a negative for me as well.

Im not usually a fan of big wheels and tires but I really like the look on that vert .

How's the performance of the Bilstein shocks when you paired it with Hotchkis lower springs?
