Popping in my rear end

So I have been dealing with this problem since late last year. It is not a constant popping but I first noticed it when the temps were a little cool and I needed to let the car run. But it didn't totally go away. Tman suggested that it was possibly a problem that might have to do with some tightening in the rear end and that I should try doing tight figure 8's in a parking lot. He suggested that I do them both ways, right and left. I also did them in reverse just to hope that it helped. It helped for a little while but I took my car out this morning with a max speed of about 40 and still heard the popping a little bit, especially at around 20mph.

Any help or suggestions on what to check/do would be greatly appreciated.

On jack stands drive shaft out. Check universals. Check yoke/pinion play. Turn the wheels and listen.
Check axle bearings.

Is it a posi? If it is may need the Fluid changed and new posi additive. They chatter when the additive wears out.

If it is a one wheel peel. Turn the wheels in opposite directions and listen for a broken chipped spider gear.

I would start with a fluid change. Maybe open it up at that time and see what's in there. We had a Suburban, while towing a travel trailer the rear end locked up going around a corner. When it let loose I swore it had snapped an axle. It didn't, had it cleaned and new fluid. No more issues.

I was going to suggest beano or gasX. :p

All joking aside, it sounds like it needs posi additive. The clutch packs are sticking.

I usually use two bottles of GM posi additive with regular 90 weight lube...
