Default Looking for opinions

About 7 years ago my stepdad gave me his 1969 Chevelle SS 396 4 speed convertible. He bought the car from a buddy in 1973. In the late 80s he tore the car down to restore it but his late wife was diagnosed with cancer. Obviously he cared for her and forgot about the car. So the car sat tore down for nearly 30 yrs so it is very rough.

Well I am now at a point in my life where I can build the car. My problem is he can't find any of the paperwork. The motor was replace in 70 or 71 (he can't quite remember) because the original motor was blown. I ran the engine code it is a 1969 396 and says GM pass Hi Perf on the side.

Of course I want to say the car will never be for sale but you never know what the future holds

Looking for opinions on if it is worth spending est. 40k+ to restore a car that I can't show to be a true SS.
