'71 Chevelle Radiator ?s
If I am in the wrong forum section please excuse, tried looking for a section on cooling.
While my Chevelle is in the body/paint jail I figured would be a good time to have the 4 row radiator (original to the car as far as I know) checked and cleaned at the only remaining radiator shop left in our area. Good thought with a bad ending, radiator tanks are good but the core itself is very thin and has had multiple repairs thru the years. Nothing since I acquired the car in '01. Shop said they could re-core to the tune of about $475 + or -. Have been looking at so many websites for a replacement copper/brass 4 row my head hurts. Seems everyone has aluminum and plastic replacements. Not hung up on a 1,000 point restore but really want the original styled copper/brass without the plastic tanks. Any thoughts on the re-core or where to find an original styled brass/copper 4row at an affordable price? Seen Griffin, Dewitts, B-Cool and a few others but at $1,100 to $1,400 for a radiator I didn't give much more than that for the car. ($1,800 in '01) |

I don't think these are the copper/brass radiators but they look very close at a replacement with a decent price.

Its a shame you are so far away ,I have a new never used small block radiator but would be afraid to ship it .I bought the last ones a local vendor had when he closed his business a few years back.

IMHO, $475 to have your original Harrison 4 row radiator re-cored would be a great decision.

Does it have the Harrison Tags still on it? I purchased a new 4 core radiator 4 years ago for my car that looks much like the original and didn't pay any where near that. It was around the $400 range, but my orginal was long gone.

Thanks for all the replies. I spoke with ss.396.com today and asked about the 68-71 BBC 4 row with auto and A/C. On sale til end of the month for $399 plus $40 shipping via UPS. Said it is copper and brass, same physical dimensions as GM OEM with 1 year warranty. Kinda' leaning in that direction, just have not pulled the trigger.
My original radiator has no tags but is stamped on one of the tanks is marked "HARRISON". Pretty sure it is original to the car but no actual proof. Car also has the BBC top plate with BBC fan shroud. Car currently has non-original 350 which I'm okay with hence the board ID. No proof but believe car originally had a BBC 402, just not sure how to be sure. Have never found a build sheet and car is pretty much tore down to the shell. |

I got my DeWitt's for around $550 shipped. But, I wouldn't be afraid to have the original recorred if the shop is reputable and does good work.

My BIL had the original Harrison radiator for his 2nd owner '57 4 door Chevrolet station wagon re-cored by the same radiator shop. Looks great but as yet has not got his wagon running so can't really tell how well it will do. It does look as original from the General tho.
