Yeah, I got a six speed (zf) in my '93 vette. Factory numbers puts it right at 300 hp. I put a chip in it and increased to about 330 by just having it run cool (185 deg instead of 220) but in 96 GM put roller rockers and more agressive cam in the vette and raised the compression from ten/half to ten/three quarters and called it a lt4 .... still only put out about 330 after all the improvements.
I cant imagine getting big HP (like 425) without going with spray! But the lt-1, in my opinion, is still a great engine once the overheating issues are dealt with |

Lloyd Elliott is the LT1-guru, well known for head & cam packages that make very impressive power... just not as impressive as what's achievable with an LSX.

Didnt notice this post but if still looking I got the Edelbrock pro flo system.Wasnt cheep and at the time was bouncing between a blower or efi.Glad I picked efi because it alway runs the same no matter the weather.

I am still considering the Fast EZ system. I like that its all inclusive and handles up to 600HP.

I also have a '95 LT1 in my Skylark. Car is still in the build process though. Would have loved to go the LS route but it exceeded my budget.

My 79 El Camino (GMC Sprint) originally had a V6 and a 4 speed saginaw but I swapped the 6 and the saginaw for a L98 TPI with 5 speed out of a 3rd gen Camaro. Everything almost bolted in and the only thing I had to do was come up with a throttle cable and I installed electric fans with Bosch relays. The computer fit up under the dash by the HVAC and I didn't have to modify much. I did end up with a cowl induction hood and Monte Carlo SS interior. My car was a factory bench with no console and it had this little plastic hump on the floor. Best turn key car I ever sold. Wish I still had it but it was either that or the 70 Chevelle

I have the Edelbrock pro-flow EFI to put on my 383, got it used on E-bay for about 1100.00. I hope to get the car running in summer 2012. We'll see... time and money, not enough of either. Doing lot more than the engine to the car.
I installed Howell EFI(TBI) (cost about 1200)on my 6 cyl 78 Jeep CJ7. works very well, has an odd issue when warm sometimes trying to go uphill at speed. Never has problems when crawling on the trail, I like it much more than with the carb. |
