Default Everytime

Everytime at the NOCC show this past weekend that I started up my car, I had guys asking me what motor I had. I told em it was just a 350 with 330 HP crate motor. So then they all asked what cam is in it? I said its fashioned after the 65-67 Corvette 327 with a little more lift & duration. I showed them the paperwork I have on the motor.

My paperwork on the cam says: Duration @ .050": 212° Intake / 222° Exhaust and the Lift: .435" Intake / .460" Exhaust. Not one of those guys (some were drag racers) agreed with those specs. They all said they think its over .500" by the way it lopes. I told them all I know is, if I really nail it, it will just shit n git.

I built a duplicate of the GM 350/330hp HO crate motor a few months ago...added same GM cam and Vortec heads on a stock, dish piston 350 short block. Installed it in my buddy's '65 Chevelle SS convertible.
It has no where the "lope" you described...

Believe me...I KNOW lope when I hear it.

Bill, this is just a little snippet of it. Motor is still a little cold. When its warm it "lopes" more than this.

That cam sounds more aggressive than the GM HO crate cam....212/222 @ .050" is pretty mild.
What is the idle set at? How much base timing? Where is the vacuum advance hooked up to...ported or manifold source? How much vacuum at idle?

I'll get a video of my buddy's '65 the next time I'm near his car. Slightly noticeable lope at idle but clears right up off idle.

Are you sure that's a stock GM HO cam??

I have no idea what timing is, vacuum is off of Edlebrock 600 carb. Don't know vacuum @ idle and the idle was at 600 RPM.....I have done nothing to this motor except change plugs in 3 years. As far as I know, its supposed to be the stock cam that came with 350/330 HO crate motor.

Lope is a little more distinguished in this one.

Maybe the low idle speed adds to the effect?

I had the idle in gear tuned to 625 RPM in my LQ4. It has a baby cam, 202/216 on a 112. It loped enough to make people look around in traffic trying to figure where it was coming from.
