Yeah, it was. I forgot about them but there were four hubcaps in there and we looked at how much those were new and they were $260 dollars a piece and these are pretty much brand new. One has a little scratch in it other then that they were perfect.

Going to pick up a 454 tomorrow. It's a 78 out of a RV. Anybody know what heads it would have on it?

236 Casting peanut ports. Junk, find a set of early heads, (65' - 70') with 100cc or smaller chambers. Use steel head shims, and it will bump the compression up a lot. Plus the larger ports flow more. It's a budget upgrade, and a proven combo. With a matched cam and intake/carb + headers, it's an easy 12 second combination. A member on Team Chevelle did the exact build in his 70' El Camino, it ran 12.70's in a 4000lb truck. (kettbo is his user name)

Oh, I was kinda hoping it had the 781 or 049s on it. How much do the different heads usually cost.

Pop a valve cover and check before taking my word for the gospel. But, the engine in my father's 72' was pulled from a 79' GMC 1 ton truck. It has the crappy peanut port heads on it. It runs ok, but could be a lot better with a head swap. I have a set of 66' oval ports set aside that I wanted to swap onto his car. (98cc) But, he has decided that he wants me to make it more factory for him. So, it will be getting a tweaked version of a stock LS5 cam. A set of 72' 241 casting heads (113cc), factory low-rise cast iron intake, exhaust manifolds, and the original Quadrajet carburetor.
Currently is has a cheap knock off aluminum intake, similar to an edelbrock performer rpm. A small cam, headers, and a holley 750 DP.

We did pop off the valve covers, it has the 781's in it and we could not believe how clean it was. The engine has never been taken apart. It had no oil on the inside of the manifolds. The inside of the heads had no grunge or sludge build up at all. It had the quadrajet carburetor on it and the low rise intake on it. We're gonna be putting a cam, hydraulic but undecided which one, intake, probably edelbrock performer rpm, carburetor is gonna be the Proform 900cfm off my dads car, Headers, we got some on trade and I think there 1.75 but not sure.

Good break on the heads, but it still has dished pistons. That = low compression. Run a short duration camshaft with a decent amount of lift. It will increase the DCR and make more power than a large by huge cam with lots of overlap.

Yeah, I knew it had low compression, around 8:1 I think. Thanks for the advice on the cam.
