Well today is the day. Warm so I can leave the door open a while air the joint out. Spent the day masking and cleaning the bottom getting it ready. I decided not to do the front wheelwells. There is no clear way to make a line under there. And it looks so good. So from the engine bay to the rear gets it. I am doing it because this is what it was factory. Ay least what it was when I got it. And the floorboard was the one thing that didnt rot sitting in a feild 25 years so it must do something. I dont see a rust issue in the front anyway. From getting caught out in the rain anyway. I will try to avoid driving in the rain.

I been working on cars since i was a pup. I don't think i will ever get used to laying under a car on carpet and working and not even getting dirty. I remember gravel lots and pain cold dropping the bolt in the gravel LOL.
Memory lane aside. I am taking a break at the moment. I got the fuel lines hooked up and now am putting in the evap system. I got the big block sender with a return line. for future upgrades as needed if needed, it is there if I need it. Aftermarket tank has extra junk going on the factory tank didnt. Because it fits everything. I am on the final vent tube for the tank and it is so tight I needed to get a wrench for the clamp. extension and swivel isnt going to work. So I am letting the blood rush back to my arms and have a soda. Report in. After this under there with the chassis black and touch up a couple things. Axle where the jackstands were. New bolts so they are not as temped to rust over time. And a nice scratch in the frame where the tank was so tight going in. Major bench press screech deal. I got a Holley High volume mechanical pump rated at 500 plus HP new. But like i said I planned ahead and got parts for way bigger if it tries to run out of gas when we get that far. I wont be racing just getting sideways alot so it should do just fine. Then I going to use window ribbon and stuff it in the front wheel well to fender cracks, not a factory deal but it wont show and I am good with better sealing and less rust on the all new parts. I try to make it factory appearing. But if you can't tell I do upgrade it to modern standards. Things that show make it look original. Under the hood all bets are off. Pop the hood and oh that isnt even close. Serpentine belt system. Elderbrock valve cover dress up crap. The ones with the removable tops for valve adjustments and additional clearance for roller rockers. All my favorite junk from when I was a kid I saved all these years. Thinking I would never have another one. Okay had my break back to work. |

Took the Chevelle out today. Rear main seal is leaking. Just got my replacement tach. They are now making one with the 3 screws on the face like the originals. Ordering new dash speakers next before I pull the dash. May be pulling the motor after that.

Probably heard the guys on the other site crying aftermarket tachs reduced the value of the cars to 150 bucks and was causing global warming.

Finished with work early, dropped by and ended up stripping the driver's side quarter panel.
To say that I am upset is an understatement. When my father owned the car, he was very ill from a heart surgery gone wrong. He paid someone to do the bulk of the bodywork. The guy is a hack, and basically got paid to waste time and materials. And in the process, F up my car. Here are a few pictures. In some spots, the filler was at least 1/4" thick... slopped on top of a new panel! Also, it looks like he hit the panel with the tip of a body hammer a few inches below where it was welded on. It's a warped mess, and I am unsure if it can be saved. I am contemplating weather or not I will have to cut it off and start over.

Ran across this in my stuff. Original chevrolet billboard for my year car. Non blacked out grill. Stripes. And a 427 emblem. So there was one of them somewhere.

I took a picture of the quarter panel that we recently installed on my folks 72' Malibu. You can clearly see how the body line should look.
