Interior/Carpet or Body/Paint, Which ?
Well from my earlier post about new carpet I've been wondering about which should come first. Any preferance as to order of restoration in a Chevelle? When I restored my '71 1/2t 4x4 was pretty easy decision as installed rubber mat, painted the metal door panels, custom 40/20/40 seat and so on. With the Chevelle having buckets & console, rear bench, door panels and carpet would like some input as which should come first and "why", interior or body and paint. Interested in the "why" question as this is my first Chevelle restore so am treading on un-familiar ground here. Need some help from those who have traveled this road before.

From personal experience/preference, I always do mechanicals first, then paint and body, interior last.

Seems as if I will be changing my order of march and go with the body/paint next in line. Mechanicals are pretty well done after changing the column shift auto and bench to factory style 70-72 buckets and console. Also changed out the TH350 and went with a "built" mid 90's 700R4 trans. Edelbrock Performer RPM intake with Edelbrock 1406 carb. Really moves the stock 350 down the road right pretty well for me. Never been a BBC man altho I did own a '72 Monte Carlo with a 402 in it several years ago. Had a LOT of torque and put you back in the seat when you got on it.

While I do agree with the guys above. Having the cash to do anything would play a major part in your decision.

Interior was the very last thing I did, above is correct in the order I did mine in.

In doing mine i did the brakes first.
then the suspension...then the interior. after that the engine and drive line. I plan on blowing the whole car apart again for the frame off and body paint etc. I would agree that body paint normaly comes first. But i wanted everything to fit and work with no suprises upon reassembly. |
