Default Speedometer Issue

When I pulled the transmission from my car there was no speedometer cable. Not a big deal, I bought one and went to install it. Now I think I know why there wasn't one. I seem to be missing something on my speedometer. Namely, the piece where the cable screws on. Does anyone know if there is a way to fix this? Or somewhere/someone who might have a sweep style Malibu speedometer? All I can find to purchase are circular SS style gauges. I wasn't really planning on dropping $1,0000 (or more) on a new instrument cluster and dash.

Don't believe the cable screws on to the speedo. Been years but I believe it's a snap on type connection. Screws on to the trans. If I'm wrong, which happens a lot, sweep style dash should be dime a dozen on craigslist.

It is a clip on deal. Got to watch E Bay and craigslist until one comes along. They are hard to find.

OK, the only cable I could find had a screw on fitting on each end. I will take a picture of the speedometer tonight and see if you guys can tell me if it's broken or not. Thanks for the help.

Would this be the correct cable?

That looks correct but it's been years since I put mine together. I'm almost positive the end that goes on the speedo is push-on with a clip on the speedo that holds it on. But I don't have a sweep dash so they could be different. Check the back of your speedo and see if there is a spring type clip that will hold the end of the cable on or maybe the clip is on the end of the cable, not sure. Maybe I can crawl under my dash tomorrow and see. Car is covered in the garage right now.

Here's a picture of the back of the speedometer:

There is a little clip like thing in there. Since I never saw it together I'm not sure what it should look like.

Nothing wrong with that speedometer just need the right cable. The one pictured looks correct. I will be home tomorrow. I will go look at mine. I got the cable on one of the benches still. They say it is the same as mine and I got the original one still.

That's the correct set up.
