Question 1971 "heavy chevy"

Hello everyone, i recently was given a 1971 chevelle by my wifes mother. I want to start the renovation but while i am not a stranger to cars and motors i have never done a complete overhaul before. The car starts but doesnt drive, and the body needs extensive work as does the interior. I want to put the famous chevy 454 big block in it, will this bolt up to the original trans and if not what trans could i use that would require the least amount of cutting? Also, i have been around classic car restorations for my whole life but i have never heard of the "heavy chevy" package. Does anyone have any information about this package. Thank you for your time

A Heavy Chevy was basically a poor mans Super Sport to get around insurance rates and they are fairly rare .I would love to someday own one.
