Default oil pressure light comes on

question. I have a 69 Malibu. just got the dash lites working, and oil pressure lite comes on when I turn on dash lites. checked bulbs and made sure ground is ok. now, I noticed even without dash lites on, the pressure lite comes on. (I know its not a oil issue). anyway, I fiddle with the light switch on dash and turn it where dome lite comes on and off, and sometimes oil pressure lite will then go off.
is this a problem with lite switch you think, or maybe a bad sending unit?
thanks

Could be the sender, but almost sounds like a bad ground.

Dash dimmer switch has nothing to do with oil pressure light. Agree with carpoor, most likely a ground issue.

hello. well, coming back from car show last Saturday, the engine seized and threw a rod, low oil pressure. don't know, but I guess the pressure gauge maybe was working. either way, the engine is out and sent to machine shop as I think the block can be saved as its number match. rod went thru oil pan and chipped the top of a valve in block. I am going to get actual gauges after all this as this no fun, not to mention my budget didn't have a rebuilt engine in the plan. either way, I guess I will get a new engine. question, the headers have some surface rust in a few places, they are ceramic, can I take SOS pad to remove rust so it don't get worse? might as well do some "cleanup" work while the engine is out of the car. it is the original 350 that came with the car.

Sorry about your bad luck Kevin. You may want to consider having both a gauge and the idiot light when you put everything back together. I run the dual set-up on all my stuff, even motorcycles. See your other post about headers.

yes, I am going to get aftermarket gauges put on when the engine is rebuilt and put back in the car. I don't understand how after about 400 miles, the engine would be this low on oil, after an oil change. . the oil was going somewhere. thanks for the responses.

Sorry to hear that. You sure it was low on oil? 400 miles after rebuild could be a plugged oil filter. Was it changed after break in?

Get rid of that bypass spring and washer in the filter housing.
Tap the hole for a pipe plug.
When this is done ALL the oil goes thru the filter.
Make sure you run a mechanical gauge.

I've heard of issues with AC Delco oil filters collapsing internally.
I use nothing but K&N or WIX (NAPA gold) filters
