Yes I agree. Mine has the factory bend about 1/2 inch above the gage hole that points towards the center of the car. But once installed it looks parallel to the car. I think if the adjusting rod were to point more towards the center of the car it would oppose the outward motion of the clutch fork as it pivots on the clutch fork ball. Ie the clutch fork travels towards the outside of the car and the adjusting rod would travels towards the center of the car.

There is about a ½ inch between the clutch fork and the base of the boot when the clutch is fully engaged. I think that is pretty close normal. But maybe I am wrong on that.
