Trailer opinions...
In the process of shopping for an enclosed trailer. Thinking 18' will be a tight fit, but will work. Being told that I should step up to a 20'. The overall length is listed as 197.5" for my 72', which is approximately 16.45 feet.
My reasoning behind staying with the shortest as possible trailer is because of my truck. I have a regular cab, short bed half ton.

Longer would be nice, give you some room for stuff. What is the weight of each? You're staring with a car weighing close to 4,000 lbs. I wouldn't worry about the length. Only time that matters is when you have strong cross winds. It's the weight you're towing that matters. Electric brakes, equalizer hitch and anti-sway go a long way. Still you don't want the tail wagging the dog.

Not sure on the weight, I am confident that my truck is very capable of towing up to 9000 lbs without breaking a sweat. I definitely need to get a weight distribution hitch - bare minimum.

If you're not worried about weight then don't worry about the length. In the scheme of things a 20' trailer is a short trailer. My son is towing a 29' travel trailer with GMC Sierra, dry weight between 6,000 and 7,000 lbs. His buddy, Silverado, is towing a longer and heavier travel trailer, it's at least 35' long.
Any enclosed car hauler should be equipped with electric brakes and that is a necessity. Anti-sway is an add-on that connects to hitch and trailer tongue or can be part of the weight distributing hitch, had that on ours when we had a travel trailer so no additional pieces to fumble with when hooking up. |

My empty 24' Haulmark trailer weighs 4,000 lbs.
I wouldn't consider buying anything shorter than 20'...and nothing with 3500 lb axles !!!

I ordered it today, ended up staying with an 18' v-nose. 5200# axles and escape door. Nose to tail, it will be a tight fit.
I was really only concerned with length due to my truck being short wheelbase. My open trailer is 18', I am very comfortable with it.

Don't forget also to get a WD hitch. I have a Blue Ox towing weight distribution hitch and it helps make the ride safer and smoother when hooked up and even when empty. I have a 20' trailer.
