Default my 65 SS

Havent been here in a long time but figured I needed a break from the other site. 1 yr ago today I bought my 1965 SS chevelle back after 15 yrs. It changed alot since I sold it but they were good changes. Sold it with a worn out 283 and got it back with a 427bbc. Anyway, here`s a few pics. Last 2 pics of how it looked before I sold it 15 yrs ago.

Nice! You can't complain about those changes. Good you got it back after 15 years.

thanks guys. I wish I knew what the color was, needs paint and the color is growing on me. I put the wheels on, changed the valve covers, redid the rear suspension and had the rearend rebuilt. I'm lucky that it was kept in good condition all these years and lucky to have been able to track it down and buy it back.

Thanks guys. I`ll give you a little history on the car. goes back to 9th grade. Walking home from school one day I came across this 65 chevelle. I thought it was awesome. It was super clean and just looked good. Took the same route everyday just so I could see the car. Then a few years later my father unfortunately passed away and I got a small life insurance policy. I looked in the autotrader and here was a really nice 65 SS chevelle. I went and looked at it and it was the same car I drooled over years ago only he had moved a few blocks over. I bought the car and at 17yrs old I had the car of my dreams and the coolest first car. I had it for 5 yrs and thought I wanted something else so I traded it to a friend for a 56 belair ex drag car, some parts and some cash. I actually cried as he drove away. Ended up selling the 56 a few years later. I came across the car again several years later looking pretty much as it does and had the 427. I knew I would never be able to afford to buy it back but at least I knew it was still taken care of. So 8 yrs ago I posted on team chevelle with the vin and a guy actually responded years later but the car wasnt for sale. I watched it on craigslist for a few years. Last summer as luck would have it I came into some money and it just so happend the car popped up on craigslist again. I emailed the seller and asked for the vin. It matched my old one. The next weekend I went and bought it. Didnt start it or drive it. Just took the guy to my bank, got a cashiers check and drove my first car home 15 yrs after I sold it. I`m extremely lucky to have found it again and be in the position to buy it back. I plan to get the interior back to "stock". Currently has a B&M pro ratchet, no console and a grant steering wheel and aftermarket gauges. I want to reinstall a console, I have the front section, get a stock shifter, thinking a 2 bar wood wheel or oem black wheel, get the factory gauges working again and install a factory tach and probably repaint it back to the original crocus yellow. I`m a huge fan of these cars back in their original colors, preserves the history of when these cars were new in my opinion. Been thinking of pulling the 427 for a 300hp 327 to make it a driver but the 427 is alot of fun. I made some changes when I planned to race it but thats no longer the plan so I have to make some changes in the gears and carb to get my mileage back up to 13-15mpg from the current 7mpg. Its going to take some time but its back and I`m never selling it again unless my family needs become more important.

Nice story, and nice car. I would go back with the original yellow. They are very pretty. If you are gonna go back with a small block go back with at least the 350 horse one, better yet, get one of the ZZ383 stoker motors and dress it up as a 300 or 350 horse motor. They are awesome. My first car was a 65 SS L79 car. Bought it in 1970 from the original owner. Wish I had that one back. Currently, just bought an original SS, with the original 300 hp and 4 speed. Danube Blue. Needs paint badly but drives great and is very tight. That's my project for the next few months.

Thanks. I`m still undecided on the color. If I go back to a 327 it wont be the L79 version. Cant run 11:1 on the junk gas we got out here in california and I dont want that engine anyway. I want something that runs good, runs on the cheap stuff and is reliable. I wouldnt go with the ZZ383 though, my 427 makes more power than that engine and a performance engine isnt what I`m looking for anyway. Dont plan to race it, just drive it.

Make a thread about your 65, would love to check it out.
