Stock pump pushrod is 5 3/4" long and 1/2" diameter...BBC & SBC are the same.

I'd pull the fuel pump and take a good loon look at it's pump lever.
Any indications of the pushrod skipping off the pump lever...either on the end or off to the side.
Like I mentioned previously...earlier this summer, I got FOUR bad pumps in a row from O'Reilly. The levers were too short allowing the pushrod to fall off the lever's end.

well i think i am going to have to put the blame on the push rod. I can't get it out for some reason! I pulled the fuel pump out, opened the screwed in bolt on the bottom of the block and turned the key once just to see if it would move and it moved but only seemed to be about a half inch to 3/4 of an inch. I can push the rod up and spin it freely. I got a needle nose and tried to pull on it and nothing. i put as much force on it as i could, but nothing! now what? i can't leave that push rod in place and go electric can i? I have to remove that rod correct?

At the front of the block there is a 3/8 bolt hole that intersects
the pushrod hole....Make sure the bolt that is supposed to seal this hole
is not to long and rubing on the pump rod.
