you cannot tell if it is an ss car from the vin on a 1970 car...
car was built at Arlington ca plant and was #237688 built at that plant...
you will need to find other documentation to verify it..
like a protecto-plate, build sheet, and/or other visual clues
like matching partial vin on proper bbc engine and transmission

there was also a rare Malibu 400 available in 1970 that came with a 396 bbc engine...

what engine do you have???

It has a matching number 454, was told to check the number on the motor and if that is the same it is a SS because they only put 454s in the SS. Thanks

If the VIN stamped on the engine matches the vehicle VIN then it's probably a true SS. Engines have been restamped to make them look numbers matching. You'll find the block number and year of manufacture on the back of the block above the bell housing.

A true SS would have front power disk brakes. A larger fuel pump with a return line to the tank. It will also have a screw clamp rag joint fitting on the end of the steering shaft. A non big block would have a pressed on rag joint. A 12 bolt rear as well. None of these proves it's an SS but if they're lacking that's suspicious.

Forgot that one, and boxed rear lower control arms.
