Default 71 Chevelle

Why when accelerating hard then suddenly letting off the gas, would my 350/4b 5.7l die? For awhile I had a lot of sputtering when accelerating and couldn't go over 20mph. Changed out the accelerator pump and all good--until i take my foot off the gas. Vacuum advance, maybe?

thank you

Seems like if the float were the issue the car would not accelerate properly in gear, neutral, and park. I suppose it could be suspect. Just seems odd that it would only come into play when decelerating suddenly from a hard acceleration while in gear. thank you
