70' Malibu from WV
I just wanted to say hey to everyone. I bought a 70' malibu last fall that probably should have been sent to the junkyard but I've wanting a 70 chevelle since I was a little kid plus I only paid $400 for it. The frame is still in really good shape and had a clear title. After a little tinkering and HEI swap the car started up and ran after not being started, moved, or driven in over 20 years. I'm getting ready to do a front drum to disc swap hopefully this week so I can move it around and be able to stop.

Welcome from another 70 owner. Looks like the car is all there. Any car can be saved with some time and care. $400 is a great price for what you got.

Welcome. Good luck with your project, it's running so that's a good start. Like Ray said any car can be saved if you're willing to put the time, effort and money into it. Hope we can help you along the way.

Thanks guys! It's definitely going to be a LONG project, but I'm not sure which direction I want to take the car. It's been unmolested beside the shotty quarter panel fix, so I'm not sure if I want to do a matching numbers build or do a resto-mod. I built a 78' chevy truck a few years ago and put a LS motor in it and really liked the way it turned out. What do you guys think? In the short time I've been on here I've seen some really nice rides and I'm getting all sorts of ideas.

I would not do a number matching build. You would never get your money back out of it since it is not a SS car. What are the first 3 numbers of the vin? Pro Touring would be the direction I would go. Build it the way you want it.

I agree with Ray. Build it the way you want. From my experience you will be so much happier. No matter what you do there will be people who will question the fact that you did not build a number matching, original car. So what, you are the one who will be driving it. What do you want to do with it, do you want it to be fast ? Do you want it to be a daily driver ? Do you want it to be a full blown drag car ? Whatever you want to do with your car will determine the path you take.

The Vin thing doesn't work from '70-'72.
The bottom line is, it's your car. An LS swap with a 4L60 or 4L80 would make lots of power, have good gas mileage and awesome streetability. The original engine is already in there and running. Your call. Welcome to the site. Keep us posted.

That looks like a fun project ,I agree with the others to build it your way ,just have fun with it .It has all kinds of possibilities ,sort of a clean slate to make your own.

The first 3 letters on the vin in 70 will tell you if it is a 6 or 8 cylinder car. I was just courteous.
If it is a 13437 Chevelle 8 cyl Two door hardtop, it would be a rare car. 13637 is most common 8 cyl or a 13537 is a 6 cyl
