Default quarter panels?

When do you know you need to change your quarter panels? this new body guy looked at my chevelle for 5 mins and said o you need new quarters. I said why? he said your rockers have bondo on it and your lip has some bondo on it. Does that warrant changing both quarter panels? or is he trying to get a paycheck?

It is yours and the bodymans call. Do you want new quarters. Can you weld in the patches in the old ones? They sell half quarters. Patch panels. You can make patch panels easily. I have a 68 hood cut up and spread evenly and welded in various areas.
It would have to be pretty bad before I would cut the car apart and put on new ones.
Sand out the bondo and see if there is rust holes. If there are no holes then it don't need anything. I want to see anybody paint a car with no bondo. Factory they had bondo.

If somebody ask does a car have bondo? Answer is Is it straight?
If it don't have any it is a mess.

Do you have bubbling under the paint. Pics would help. See exactly what he is talking about.

I agree, get the car stripped and assess the situation. I picked up some half quarters for my 69'. I am going to trim them to only replace what is damaged. Some people do not like doing it this way. They consider it cobbled together, and opt to replace the entire panel, so there are no seams other than where the factory joined the panels.
