Question Too Much Carburator?

Hi, I have a question about my carburator. I have a Holley Model 4160 Adjustable Float Carburetor, it is a 750 cfm. Many people have told me that this is too big of a carburator for my motor, so I was wondering what you guys thought.

My Engine: 1985 350 sbc, the motor is completely stock except for a .268 duration cam, double roller timing chain, Edelbrock performer intake manifold, and the carburator listed above.

So is this carburator too big for my motor?

Thanks, Nate

I don't really know that much about this sort of thing but you could try this http://www.holley.com/applications/C...bSelection.asp

Guessing that you may be a tad big with the 750. How does it run ?

Most near-stock 350 engines do just fine with a 600 or 650.

Do you have a friend that has a smaller vacuum secondary carb you can just borrow to see if your problems go away?

Might not be a "too big carb" issue.
Could simply be a tuning problem...not enough initial timing, float setting, jetting, vacuum leaks, idle adjustment,...hard to tell without more info.

the carb is definitely too big for the engine, however the size of the venturies has nothing to do at all with ease of startup, or idle quality. The carburetor may be at fault for the hard start condition you are experiencing (most likely a misadjusted or inopperative choke or fast idle) if you have money to spend i'd recommend a 550-600cfm carb.
