Help
Been trying to find a diagram or picture that would help me know where the plastic plugs go to hold the fire wall insulation up inside of the car. Also what are you using to seal the heater box and the other parts that go on the engine side of the fire wall? The assembly manual calls for a sealant to be used. Car coming together one part at a time.
Thanks Ray

Since the dash and harness are out of my car maybe I can get a picture of the insulation. Don't know what they used on the heater box but you have to have a 5 year old do it if you want it to look factory.

Well there is no way to take pictures in there that would be of any use. They're buried so deep you can't tell what you're looking at. Here is what I found using a flashlight. Right and left is from inside the car facing the dash.
Passenger side, about 3" above the bottom edge, carpet, right next to the vent hole. Bottom passenger side where the insulation curves down around the hump, just above the carpet. Just off center to passenger side, above the hump at the top. Just about inline with the passenger side of the duct for the defrosters. Near where the duct leaves the air box, before it splits into two. Straight above the steering column near the top edge Below the fuse block, up and to the right a little from the hole where the toe panel screws in. Above the fuse block, almost directly above, slightly to the right, of the one below the fuse block. The rest is held in by the heater box, gas pedal, fuse block and e-brake. Hope this helps Ray. |

I talked to Ray yesterday and asked him about the sealer around the heater box. He wasn't sure exactly what it is but said he thinks it's a gray rope caulk, stays flexible. He said he would look through his stuff and see if had any more info.

Also another question. How long are the plastic plugs that hold the fire wall insulation. The ones that came with my kit are really long and was wondering how far they stuck through the fire wall on the engine side from the factory. Mine would stick through over an inch. Looks tacky, I was thinking the original only stuck out a little. Good place to look is right above the heater box on the fire wall.

Using my handy measuring device (AKA ruler) and portable light source (AKA flashlight) I come up with 31/32". Could be off a 32th of inch one way or the other.

Thanks again Hank, looks like about an inch so I will leave them the way they are. Again you bailed me out. I know I will have more questions down the road.
