Default What aftermarket exhaust

Was thinking about swapping out the 2 1/2 flowmaster, American thunder system in the car now.

What do you guys think of the the Pypes 3" system. Thanks

3" is only necessary for BIG HP engines, making over 450 horses. You may lose a little low end grunt.

I'd say that your best bang for the buck exhaust change will be to swap the jokemasters for a set of through-style perforated core mufflers like pypes, magnaflow, dynomax, etc. make. That's all you need.

I would actually like to tone down the "growl" of the car. I can't believe I said that. The one thing about my car has always been that it just sounded good. But, maybe it is time that I tone it down, and make it easier on the ears on those long rides. That rumble can be hard on the ears after a while.

Flowmasters are a nuisance on long trips. They drone by design. Drone is that sound they make when you're cruising at steady rpm, like driving down the highway.

The majority of through-style mufflers have a nice idle, and a loud sound at WOT, but do not drone down the road.

3" pipes will be louder, no matter which mufflers you choose.

If you decide to go with through style mufflers, make sure they're not packed with fiberglass or anything else that can deteriorate. The good ones are packed with ceramic plates or stainless steel

Hey Dave, I know exactly what Jake is talking about. I had the 40 series (2 chamber) flowmaster mufs on a 70 SS convertible. The tech on the phone told me I should go with the 70 series (3 chamber). The 40's had a irritating drone @ 35-40 mph. You couldn't hardly hear the radio playing. The following summer I went with the 70 series.
On my current Chevelle I'm running a pair of polished stainless Magnaflow. There pretty mild at idle, and have really nice sound when you get on the go pedal.
I like them alot. Heres some sound clips from Magnaflows website:

I used the 70 series on my jeep and like them very much. Nice little growl at idle and when on the throttle but no droning. Guess I did not think about them for the chevelle. Thanks for the idea.
