Default What the ?

We're in a campground, south of Miami north of Homestead. Park use to be an avocado grove in what is called the Redlands Agricultural Area. Surrounded by farm land growing tropical plants, produce, palm trees, etc. So while out driving the other day I see a for sale sign for some property. 5 to 150 acres, $79k/acre. So what the? How many tomatoes do you have to sell to recoup your $79,000/acre? This isn't water front in Ft Lauderdale, it's just flat agricultural land. Just can't see how you can justify $79,000 per acre for farmland.

Possible commercial zoning? Close to the racetrack?

One thing you can't make more of. Land prices around here are not affordable anymore. Undeveloped land is easily 80k a acre. I haven't check what farm land is going for, but I bet it's close.

Wow, at those prices, I would consider selling a few acres!

It's not commercial, all agricultural. A few gas stations, fruit stands and small shops along the main highway that cuts through the area. Other than that, just agricultural. That wasn't the only sign I saw with prices in that range. Of course most of the people around here speak Spanish. Maybe they were confused and that's pesos not dollars.
