Engine Question
My 72 Malivert is using oil and fouling plugs , the engine is a 290 HP crate motor with lots of hard miles on it . I have the original 350 with 55000 miles on it . It did not smoke or foul plugs but did use oil ,my guess from sitting a long time before I bought it . It was a typical 2 bbl engine . My thoughts are to open it up and see what it needs ,maybe put in a Roller Cam w/ roller rockers and aluminum heads and call it a day .
What says you guys with more knowledge than I on motors ? Just doing some planning ,wont happen right away as Im building trucks right now .

I'm no expert on building engines so I'll sit back and see what others say.

You wont know what they need til you pull them apart.
Cylinder walls scored....crank needs grinding etc. |

Buddies 2 bbl motor in a 71 chevelle. Light porting a RV type cam. Headers and a 4 bbl added. Ran 12.7 consistently for 8 years on skinny factory sized tires. Or you could light them up till you let off whichever mood you were in.
I trying to say I would look into just freshing it up some. It be fine. |

I would do a compression test and a leak down test. It could be something as simple as valve guide seals causing the smoke and oil consumption.

We did that and changed the valve seals with no success .
