FL has reciprocity with quite a few states, over 30 I think. MI has reciprocity with 39 states. Northeast, west coast and Illinois in middle. When we went out to Mt Rushmore and Yellowstone in 2015 I drove through Illinois without stopping. After that, all good.

Illinois is one I would have to travel through to go a few places. And not sure if my FL CWL is good in Michigan or Ohio. (Pure Stock/F.A.S.T. races) It's definitely a no go in NY & NJ.

carpoor, you're good in MI and Ohio. Illinois, NY and New Jersey are pretty much no carry even for residents. MI changed from CCW to CPL (Concealed Pistol License), the license does not allow concealed carry of other weapons like tasers. Many other states are the same, only pistol is allowed. Here's a list of where you're good.

www.freshfromflorida.com/Divisions-Offices/Licensing/Concealed-Weapon-License/Concealed-Weapon-License-Reciprocity

Federal law allows you to transport your gun "through" any state so long as it's legal for you to have the gun in the state you start from and the state you end up in. Stopping overnight, not having it unloaded and not accessible can get you in trouble in some states that don't recognize your FL license. That's why if I have to go through IL I won't even stop for gas. Just get through that stupid state as fast as I can. Oh, and they have more gun homicides in Chicago than in anyother major city. So much for their crazy laws.

I've been meaning to check out a LCP and Body Guard then I saw the RM 380 for $139 after rebate. Figured can't really go wrong at that price. Reviews say it handles well for such a small gun, I'll see when we get to FL and I can get to the range. Hey, what's LGS? Rural King opened a store here, they also have RK Guns which is online but some of the sales are both online and in stores. Sign up and you'll get a couple emails a week on guns, ammo and gear on sale. Pretty decent prices. That's where I got the RM380.

Thank you for the links gentlemen. I know Chicago as the world's largest outdoor shooting range!

I see what you mean about CWL vs. CWP. Guess I had better leave my pocket knife at home. It's spring assisted, but under 3" in blade length. So not "technically" a concealed weapon as defined by Florida law.

Dah! Yea, gun forum speak. Shouldn't have caught that but I don't frequent them very often.

Well I'm glad I'm 50+ miles from Detroit. Every morning I see the news and just have to shake my head. You'd think some of these large cities are in the middle east. I want your car, I cap you. You made me mad, I cap you. I don't like the way you look, I cap you.

Have to be careful, every state has their own laws. If you have a FL CWP other states may recognize it but there laws regarding it are probably different.
