Default Winter fish kill

The pond is thawing out. Kathy has a bunch of Koi fish, some as long as 24". We have taken around 20 dead ones out so far. Some of the smaller bass too. What a shame. About 10 of the real big ones so far. I think most, if not all, will be dead.

Yes Bill. This was the coldest Winter on record here. Only two days during the entire season did it get above freezing. We had a record number of days below zero too. The ice is over two feet thick on the pond.

Thanks. I have to haul a bucket load of dirt back there today to bury them. Will most likely find more dead ones today. It stayed above freezing last night, so more of the pond is thawing out.
