Okay, the rubber seal around the air cleaner fits up against the hood. You're saying that section of the hood does not open to the rear?

Yes, from what I can tell there is no opening to the rear except a small area about half inch by two inches long. You can see it in the one photo at the top of the off set

Now the domed hood...
See the obvious difference between the inner structure? Hence why I recommend an air pan to make a domed hood functional.

OK, I see what you are saying, mind is the domed hood. Thanks for the info. Would like to make my inlet to get some air in. Thinking all I have now is just through the air breather inlet.

You are most likely picking up air from the engine compartment. Go with an air pan set up. Simple to fabricate, or they sell trim to fit kits.
