Upgrading Frame & Suspension
Working with a 70 Chevelle I want to tear out the frame and suspension and replace with either of these:
Art Morrison https://www.artmorrison.com/chevelle.php Or, Schwartzperformance http://www.schwartzperformance.com/1...is-full-frame/ Admittedly neither are cheap options, but, this thing will handle like its on rails. Has anyone here done anything like this? Thanks for your input Perry |

There was a guy on the internet who had all kinds of issues with the Swartz on his 64 Chevelle.. I can't find the photos but it was a mess.. Maybe he ordered the wrong frame, I don't know for sure..

My humble opinion... keep the stock frame and buy a suspension setup from either Hotchkis or DSE. Then box the frame, either with a premade kit or do your own.
A good friend of mine has the Hotchkis kit on his 72' C10 with a home boxed frame. It really handles well - you almost forget that it's a pickup truck. He also added 13" Baer brakes and the appropriate rolling stock.

After my post, I did a whole bunch more research and will not be going that way. I am however taking the advice of this forum by boxing the frame and adding more strength through the middle of th frame by using a kit from HPI Customs.
Thanks for the input everyone. Now I do have a couple other questions. First photo: There's brackets on the ends of the frame. I'm pretty sure they're for the bumpers? Second photo: What is the plastic skirt for Third photo: what's the small bracket on the corner of the frame for Thanks again for all your help Perry |

You might want to look into a #1942 frame for a el Camino/station wagon.. They are massive.. You would have to trim the rear rails though..
When I bought my 69 el Camino I noticed how much better it handled and felt compared to the other GM A body's I've driven. When I put it up on a lift I saw why.. I have about $2500 into the SC&C stage 3 front end, Lee box with Spohn rear spherical control arms and it handles and rides well.. Last edited by pitts64; 04-12-2017 at 06:58 AM. |
