Whats Easiest Way To Adjust
Whats the easiest way to adjust column shift linkage on a 70 with a TH350 in it?
Except for Park and Reverse the little red indicator is before the N, D, L2, L1. Today I was at Milan Dragway and put the car in L1 (or so I thought) took it up to 5,000 rpm, shifted into L2 (or so I thought) shifted at 5,000 again into D only to find that it went into neutral. The car over revved and blew the vacuum hose off of the power booster so when I hit the brakes the pedal was rock hard. I down shifted and turned onto the return road at about 50mph. Scared the crap out of me and the worker on the return road.......he yells at me "Are you OK"..........I yells back "I hope so". When I got to the ET shack I picked up my ticket and just idled it back to parking spot. I looked at my reaction time and couldn't believe it. I must have started out in L2. So anyways, how do I adjust the column shifter linkage with the trans so we end up on the same page?

If I'm not mistaken, take the bottom cover off under the steering column, should just be 4 screws. On the passenger side of the column there is a philips screw and a tab with a cable on it, if you loosen that screw you should be able to adjust the pointer on the dash to indicate which gear your in. Adjust it for Park and then for L1 and the rest should fall into place.
Should be something similar to this

Thanks Justin, but what I'm really lookin for is the adjustment from column shift linkage to trans. When I have it in Low, I don't think the trans is all the way engaged in Low. How do I fix that ?

Ken, what does it look like at the transmission/linkage connection? Is the rod threaded? I haven't had an older vehicle with a column shifter in so long, I forgot what the parts look like.

I'll have to go out to the garage and take a pic of it.
