PS Pump Rebuild
I need to get the OEM ps pump/resovoir rebuilt on the convertible this winter. Anybody have a recommendation on someone good to send it to? I'd like to get it done over winter, so I'm ready to go for spring.
Thanks.

I've never done but you can get a rebuild kit at NAPA and other parts stores. Heard it's pretty easy but like I said, I've never done. I may give it try though, I have an original pump that I don't know the condition of. The one on the car now is the same except the return line fitting comes out at the wrong angle.

Thanks, Hank. Yes I think you're right. There are kits available, but I think you still need to get a GM gasket that prevents leaks between the pump and resovoir. I'm not sure the parts stores carry them.
Also, lately I've been reading about guys who have sent some of their engine components to other hobbyists (for $$) that can fix carbs, etc. I was hoping to find someone who specializes in OEM pumps/resovoirs.

Here's a link I got from the other new site today that is really helpful. It's a step, by step, with pics, on how to do it. Thanks, Bruce!!

I'll check with Ray Barnes or you could shoot him a PM. I know he restored his pump, someone used a big pry bar on it and dented the case. Not sure if he rebuilt it or just restored the exterior looks.

Thanks, Hank. But I think we're going to give it a try on our own. Bruce's step by step link is a terrific resource and confidence builder!

Hey Andy,
I rebuilt one a few years ago, and it wasn't that hard at all. If I remember the pump came with a new gasket. Pretty easy and straight forward. I think the hardest part was removing the pulley.

The kit will come with everything you need. It will include a new shaft bushing and all the seals. It's really not very hard, just time consuming. I'm very picky and make sure everything is clean and free of any nicks that could cause the seals not to do thier job. When it's all done you'll be alot happier knowing you did it and saved some money to buy other parts.
