Rear differential leak
Got a question. I've had my car about a week. I've been watching all the typical areas for leaks (front and rear main bearing leaks, trans and differential). I took the car for a short spin Saturday and on Sunday, noticed a small pool of oil under the rear differential (size of a pancake). Prior to Sunday, I was not getting any leaking from this area.
Will those seals just fail? What is level of difficulty to replace? |

Is it leaking from the front, pinion seal, or the rear cover seal? Hard to over fill the rear but you might want to check the fluid level.

Yes-the pinion seal. I've never had a car where I've had a substantial leak at the pinion seal. Just a very strange encounter to see that pool.

if you do it the way the video shows with a little bit of gray rtv you will be fine for a long time!

Shaun, the video was great. thanks again. question, when you did your repair, did you do it on the ground? The video makes it look easy with the car on a lift!

lol yes i did it on the ground it wasnt as easy but it was pretty easy for me because i had the seal puller

Ok. Good to know you had no issues. would you recommend having a seal puller on hand? I thought they pried out pretty easy?

lol no mine did not come out easy at all! unless you have a trick to do it i would have it
