I am running an HEI Distributor. I was able to trace some of the wires that were still connected. Is the brownish wire in the picture the coil wire ? I was looking at a 69 chevelle wiring schematic and it says that the purple wire goes to the starter. On a HEI distributor, do I run the coil wire to the BATT on the distributor ? I am kind of lost on this. Spent a lot of time working on a ford with points which was basic now that I'm on this I am wondering what needs to go where to get it to start. I appreciate any help.

The first pic looks to be the engine wiring harness. Yes the purple wire goes to the S stud on the starter. Orange goes to heater blower motor. Blue drops down on drivers side and goes to oil pressure sender, above oil filter. Broken red wire may have been someone's attempt to replace the original resistive wire to run an HEI. Can you see where it use to go in the connector?

Second pic looks like the forward light harness. Goes to headlights, parking lamps, etc. Also feeds power to the fuse block.

Third pic, brown wire looks like the one that goes to the brake proportioning valve, on the frame below the mater cylinder.

Yes, power to the HEI plugs into the BATT terminal on the distributor.
