Default Dash speakers

Hey guys, I have a 2 speaker dash in my 70 Chevelle and I need to replace the speakers. I really have 2 questions. First off what is the size of them? Secondly, how do I replace them? Do I have to remove the dash pad? Thanks in advance.

They are 4x6. You must take your dash pad off to replace them. If you have an original radio, use 8-10 ohm speakers.

Dash pad is easy to remove. It's only a matter of 6 screws on the leading edge of the pad,I think there are 2 when you open the glove box. Slide it back toward you. You will see how the clips go in place at the windshield when you put it back in place.

Okay that was real easy! Look at the time on my posts. I just went and put my shoes on went out to the garage and got a few screw drivers and a flashlight, then I went out removed the pad and bagged up the fasteners and put everything away.

Well its been a while since I asked this question and I opened a can of worms when I took the dash pad off. First I went out and bought a new Alpine head unit that is Ipod ready, then I bought 2) 4x6 2 way speakers and 2) 6x9 3 way speakers both made by alpine. My car had all four speakers in place but they were all blown. I had to cut the rear speaker shelf to get the 3 ways in the rear and I had to make brackets for the front sleakers since they were simply stuck to the metal parts of the dash! The brackets are not my best work but I figured that I couldn't make a career out of doing this install. So I just did some rough cutting with the plasma cutter and threw some paint on em. Man it sounds awesome! I am so happy with it I want to go cruise all around!
