Question 1971 Chevelle inner fenders - plasitic or steel?

I bought my car with NO front end. This is my 1st Chevelle.

What I am wondering... Plastic or metal inner fenders?
I see both are listed.

Could use some help...

my car won't ever be original again.
I just want a great driver....

I bought plastic ones for mine. I figured I would never have to worry about painting them or them ever rusting again plus they would be a bit more forgiving during the install. I haven't made it that far in my build yet but a cutlass I had, had them from the factory.

Thanks Again

I had always thought that plastic was an early 70s thing. Then I bought my 69' this past February, it has original plastic inner fenders.

The plastic inner fenders I have in my 72' fit horrible. Supposedly the AMD & Parts Place inner fenders fit nice. But, they are more costly than a set of reproduction steel inner fender panels.

All the ones I have seen crack at some point. I went with metal on mine. I had a 70 that had one plastic and one metal.

I like the metal to. It adds structural support to the doghouse. When I did my bodywork I had them out. Fenders flopping around. Once they are bolted in it needed reblocked and the front end is a brick now. Those fenders are not moving.

When I bought my car it was in pieces. The inners were rusted out so replaced them with metal ones. Fit was good and I'm not going to be driving it in the snow and salt so I wasn't worried about them rusting and 10 years later they haven't.
