1970 Chevelle SS, Malibu SS, Malibu, Convertible, Concours
1970 Chevrolet Malibu
1970 Malibu Convertible In 1970, Chevrolet introduced the ultimate powerhouse for it's mid-sized line-up. Chevelle enthusiasts were greeted by the LS-6 with the fearless 454 V8. The 454 had a factory rating of 450 hp. Few other muscle cars could rival the power of this super sport optioned model. The LS-6 454 included high compression pistons, rectangle port cylinder heads, and solid valve lifters, teamed up with dual exhaust and a cowl induction hood. While performance was important, so was looks and 1970 SS optioned Chevelles were available with twin stripes running over the hood and rear deck lid. Magnum 500 steel wheels were used on all SS option models as well as heavier suspension. The 1970 Chevelle LS 454 remains one of the highest collected muscle cars of all time. 1970 Chevrolet Malibu Production Numbers Model Number-Body/Style Number-Body Type & Seating-Factory Price-Shipping Weight-Total Production Chevelle Malibu Series 35 - Six-Cyl 35 69 4 Dr Sedan - 6P $2,685 3,221 lbs 21,100 (rounded off) 35 39 4 Dr Sport Sedan - 6P $2,790 3,302 lbs 35 37 2 Dr Sport Coupe - 6P $2,719 3,197 lbs 35 67 2 Dr Convertible - 6P $2,919 3,243 lbs 35 36 4 Dr Concours - 6P $3,056 3,687 lbs Note 3 Chevelle Malibu Series 36 - V-8 36 69 4 Dr Sedan - 6P $2,775 3,330 lbs 354,700 (rounded off) 36 39 4 Dr Sport Sedan - 6P $2,881 3,409 lbs 36 37 2 Dr Sport Coupe - 6P $2,809 3,307 lbs 36 67 2 Dr Convertible - 6P $3,009 3,352 lbs 36 46 4 Dr Concours - 9P $3,323 3,836 lbs Note 3 36 36 4 Dr Concours - 6P $3,210 3,794 lbs Malibu Concours Estate Series 38 - V-8 38 46 4 Dr Station Wagon - 9P $3,455 3,880 lbs Note 3 38 36 4 Dr Station Wagon - 6P $3,342 3,821 lbs Chevelle SS 396 Series 36 - V8 + RPO Z25 Super Sport 396 Option Package 36 37 2 Dr Sport Coupe - 6P $3,439 Not Available 49,826 36 67 2 Dr Convertible - 6P $3,639 Not Available Chevelle Malibu SS 396 Series 36 - V-8 + RPO Z15 Super Sport 454 Option Package 36 37 2 Dr Sport Coupe - 6P $3,497 Not Available 3,773 36 67 2 Dr Convertible - 6P $3,697 Not Available 442,046 Chevelles were produced 37,400 (rounded off) 6-Cyl and 402,900 (rounded off) V-8 Wagons Six-Cyl = 5,600 (rounded off) and V-8 = 35,000 (rounded off) 7,511 Convertibles were built in 1970 Chassis Data Model-Wheelbase-Overall Length-Width-TIRES:Front Tread-Rear Tread Chevelle (2 Dr) 112 in 197.2 in 76 in 59 in 59 in E78 x 14B Chevelle (4 Dr) 116 in 201.2 in 76 in 59 in 59 in E78 x 14B Chevelle Station Wagon 116 in 206 in 76 in 59 in 59 in 7.75 x 14 Chevelle SS 396 & 454 112 in 197.2 in 76 in 59 in 59 in F70 x 14 VIN Numbers Serial Numbers were stamped on a plate on the left front door hinge pillar (center pillar on Corvair). If your numbers are not on the pad they could also be stamped into the boss above the oil filter or in the rough casting (Which makes it harder to see)in the same area. I'll see if I can find a picture of this.
