Disc brakes
Getting ready for the first major upgrade to my 72. Going to switch it from drum to disc brakes. Any thought about just doing the front vs doing all 4 wheels. Also looking for a recommendation on a good brake kit.

What size rim are you going to be running. Also did you see the sticky about disc brakes in this section? The kits for 15" rims is limited if that is what you are going to run. I have heard good things about The Right Stuff Detailing Disc Brake kits. I have not done a conversion so I'm not the expert in this stuff.

I just bought front spindles and used 69 parts, on a 68. I got the correct spindles but the dual piston calipers are not to be found so I went with what you can get. Still got drum rear. Unless you plan to autocross stopping from 220 to 40 into corners several times every few minutes. Rear disc are a braggart point only. Fronts do all the stopping. Normal street driving and drag strip panic stops. Front disk and rear drum are more than adequate.
I didn't use a kit I just bought the parts. |

Existing front drum spindles can easily modified to convert to a disc brake setup without even removing them from the vehicle.
Buy caliper brackets, dust/splash shields, and large bracket bolts from any Chevelle parts vendor or Ebay. Then, just buy stock replacement disc brake components from your local auto parts store...discs brakes were available from the factory on '72 Chevelles so use that as a counter person guide. Saves on shipping $$$. As mentioned, rear discs on an everyday cruiser are not necessary.
