Engine Combo's
I got a pretty good running 434 in my 72, but I'd like a little more. You know how that goes. Been kicking the idea around to put a 6.0 LS with a carb, but I always ran BB chevies so that also is a possibility. May try to see what the sb does at the track this summer, and then develop a plan. Got a 5.3 and a 6.0. I have the harness, pcm and complete eng out of a 2000 trk, 6.0, but if I go that route I probably do a carb. I know where there is a 4 bolt 454 block, so there would be a 496 or a start on 1 anyway. I guess I'm old school but a chevelle looks better with a BB in it. What have you guys got and any dyno numbers out there? It's winter, colder than a well diggers a$$ and more snow coming. I need something to look forward too.

I almost put an LQ4/4L80E in my 72', but I just couldn't bring myself to do it. I figured it would have run well with an 80mm snail.
Check out sloppy mechanics web site for some sick budget "truck motor" builds. They make 500+ rwhp with ease from 5.3s with a chinese 70mm turbo and pump gas.

I think I'll go with the 6.0. I got it, plus I figured up a 496 and damn near had a heart attack. With me having a sb now means I need everything from rockers, valve covers, intake and the list goes on. When I built this sb, I had the Motown block, dart heads, and a intake and it still cost me a small farm in texas. Everything on it and in it is new. I can build the 6.0, use the 5.3 heads I got, and do a turbo cheaper than I can do a BB. The et slip will look better too. Guess I'll join the current generation Injection and all. Never thought I'd be doing this.

Skip the 5.3 head swap, they don't flow as good as the 317s on the six liter. If you are trying to raise compression, go with a set of milled 243s or 799 castings. Plus a lot of the 4.8/5.3 heads have the crappy service port, makes them tend to push water past the head gaskets in that area. And the newer heads are prone to cracking under the valve covers. I am pulling the 5.3 out of my tuck due to a mystery coolant loss. It runs great, but I get a low coolant light every 3-4 months. And it is usually down half a gallon. Swapping in the LQ4/4L80E I never put in my Chevelle.
