Default My Elky's Turn

Its almost time for my El Camino to have a chance to get driven some and let the convertible get some much needed rest and cleaning. The Elky is running very rough partly due to old points and condenser and probably bad gas as well by now .Once I remember how to change and adjust the points I'll see about driving out the bad gas and getting her some fresh. Then it will be time for cleaning the old girl up and just driving her awhile.

Swap that points distributor for a HEI.

Only two screws to change points, if you have a dwel meter it helps to set points with it. We used to used them all the time back in the seventies. In fact I still have one in my tool box, wonder if it even works anymore.

If you aren't overly concerned with originality I'd say toss the points and put an electronic conversion kit on your current distributor, step up to a Blaster II coil and bypass the resistor wire. Keep all the stuff you take out of it in case you ever feel the need to go back to original. The nice thing about the electronic ignition is the car can lay around or get driven every day and there really isn't much maintenance other than a cap and rotor every now and then. I used to not mind points but on my last Chevelle I spent more time adjusting and cleaning them than I did driving the car since it sat so much
