Vented Gas cap?
Hey guys I just installed a new gas tank from right stuff detailing CFT6801 on my 69 Chevelle.
I am having trouble finding a vented gas cap that will work, I think I need the deep style. The only deep style vented cap that I can find is for a 70 chevelle. What would be the difference between the 69 and 70? Thanks! |

Maybe only in design, should work fine.

I called right stuff detailing today were the tank came from and they were zero help. I went ahead and ordered the deep style cap for the 70, I hope it works.
Thanks. |

I'm having the same problem with my 68 Elky SS. I paid more for the better tank, not vented as per the original tank I removed (Gas Cap Missing) and I can't find the right vented cap. I bought 2 so far, First one too shallow, second one too deep. Seems like there should be a middle one but I just haven't had luck yet so at least the deep one keeps dirt out.

You need the tank with the three vents across the top. Plug the two end ones and run a gas filter to the center. Mount the filter up high, this will be the new vent. This cured all my gas issues on my 69 el Camino, especially the gasoline smell...
I am on my third tank in three years, they all leak. I am just getting this one coated at the radiator shop. If you have a new one might as well get it coated before installing it.. So there it is, Buy the cheap tank with three vents across the top and have it coated before installing... Last edited by pitts64; 10-16-2019 at 02:47 PM. |
