I finished installing the harmonic balancer, and finally painted the entire engine orange. Waiting on a tool I ordered to arrive so I can get my pushrod length measured and order what I need.
Again I did nothing to the Chevelle ,Im doing yard and tree work. Im removing 3 trees in preparation for a pole barn for the newly restored(soon I hope) truck to park under .
grumpy and I discussed going to Summit while we are in Cleveland for the show on Friday. We need to pick up the air conditioning and the mufflers. Depends on if we want to add another 1 1/2 hours to our already 3 -3 1/2 hour trip.
You can get the A/C cheaper than Summit from a place in Florida ,no sales tax and free shipping .Summit would not meet their price because they could not look it up on the net. I saved about $150 on the one for my truck which was considerably higher than those for the Chevelle if you are using Vintage Air.
i have not done anything to the car but i finally got my t56 in the mail lastnight :)
Put in the new oil pressure gauge, installed kick panels with speakers & picked up my new driveshaft. Putting new carpet in tomorrow along with the driveshaft and 1350 yokes. There is a chance I could actually drive this thing by the end of the day....

Good thing that we didn't stop at Summit, just no time. |
PM sent to Ms Grumpy about Vintage Air .
Started to sand down the engine cross member and frame rails. Looks like I'll be removing the center link and steering box soon. I am trying to get the engine bay detailed the rest of the way ASAP. I should be ordering a set of pushrods by the weeks end. I am beyond ready to get the engine and transmission installed in the car. It will get a lot of crap off the floor and out of the house.

I went to check on the progress of mine yesterday.
Thanks for the info flash.
69...love the black ! |
I moved the 55 out of the shop to get the El Camino out ,moved the vert to the back on one side and the 55 to the back on the other side ,all so I could drive the Camino tomorrow .
I met with the interior guy this week and we ordered up all we need to turn my gold interior into black.
I don't have the talent to do it all myself, but I will be there every step of the way. Who knows maybe I'll learn something. I can't wait untill it's done,I have disliked the gold ever since I bought it. |
Got the ok today to start putting the motor back in the car from the wife. Clutch fan is on it way back from being restored so as soon as it gets here I'm going for it.
Today I started partitioning off a section of the pole barn so I’ll have an easier time controlling the climate and dirt moving around the Chevelle. It makes me sick every time we lift the garage doors to go to work and come home and see the snow melting off the cars, or this time of year, lifting the doors of a cool dry building only to have the warm humid air from outside soak everything inside. Once I get it sealed off, I have a spare dehumidifier that’s going in there.:)
I actually did a lot today! i got the Zbar installed driveshaft is in for good now with new straps diff cover is on. it feels good to step on the clutch and have it feel like a real working pedal now :)
Got back my fan clutch from being restored today. First two photo before I sent it out. Has the correct date code put back on it.
nice guys! this weekend i think i am going to attempt to rebuild my drums but thats just a thought :)
I looked at my car again on the weekend and I saw that the guy has not touched it since the last couple weeks. That just makes me angry, he said he might have it done by may because he's going on vaca the first week of may. I'm just gonna keep pushing him.
Finally was home long enough to work on the '67 yesterday...I'm very near completing the new engine install and proceeding with installation of a Vintage Air unit.
Although the A/C install won't be complete, I may fire this puppy up and drive it to a cruise Saturday night. |
Where is the cruise in at Saturday night ?
Every 5th Saturday of a month...downtown Acworth.
Will try and make it ,not sure what we have going this weekend.
Tried to get it moved up on the Mechanics list, no luck.
After 2 years of searching my 70 year only rear speaker grill came today.
I took apart a set of disc brakes I picked up the other day. I plan to have the backing plates and the calipher brackets refinished. They even came with the 2 piece rotor which the 70 had on them. Not sure if they are turnable. Car will be leaving the first of the month to have the engine installed. June 1st will be the completion of this car.
Glad to hear Gary you got you speaker grille |
I weed eated around my yard and shop and many of the trees and tilled my garden yesterday so the Chevelle got no loving. It probably wont get any today either .

I walked into my shop for a few minutes just to look at the Chevelle ,El Camino ,Trans Am and 55 dreaming of taking them for a ride but then had to get back outside and resume my yard work.
Trying to spend a couple of hours a night on the car. Cleaned up the backing plates and calipher brackets. Almost ready to be refinished.
I may try to drive the vert to the going away party tonight.
All I need to do is install the spark plugs, prime the engine, and stab in the distributor and this puppy is ready to fire up.
May do that today. Also, ordering a few items from Vintage Air to complete that A/C installation. Compressor and condensor are in...just needing some longer plumbing to make the install more tidy to my liking. Will need these items before I can bolt in the evaporator housing. Then I can finally install the new AM/FM radio purchased from Ausley's. Whew... |
Cant wait to see your upgrades .
Decided that I am going to win the $500 million lottery on Friday night, then I will be able to do whatever I want to my car. :)
With that much money you can do whatever you want to do to my cars.

bought all the parts i need for my brakes :)
I fired up the new big block and broke it in last night.
Couldn't take the '67 out for a ride....was raining but I plan on driving it tonight, weather permitting. This baby BBC is very crisp...sounds healthy but more tame the the past few engines I've built. The Q-jet carb from SMI is right on! Just what I wanted... |
complete failure today! i spent about 2 hours learning how to do my rear brakes and then i went to take one side apart and put it back together and NOTHING was fitting! i was so mad i went back and got another setup and still wrong! so i am going to return everything and just order it from ground up not in the mood for a guessing game :(
Somethings doesn't sound right. Parts are basic for most A body cars. Did you take your old brake shoes in from one side to compare them before you picked them up? I always take parts with me to make sure I'm getting the correct parts. Even ground can send you the wrong parts at time.
