I started working on it
Attachment 2481 Gonna be a long road Sent from in a ditch up side down and on fire with the wheels still spinning |
It was 27 Degrees out this morning when the sound of a big block filled the morning air.
Drove mine to work for the first time in a few weeks! So glad I don't live up north!! |
Noticed a small spot of oil in the garage under the car and assumed something was just a little loose and needed tightened - oil spot was not large enough to cause concern really.
Well I crawled under the car yesterday and did some cleaning up/wiping down and checking all the various bolts that might need re-snugging. Nothing was obviously loose and the oil appeared to have no starting place except the bottom of the pan. So I wiped the pan down and continued cleaning up headers and other various areas that get road grime on them when I noticed a line of oil slowly making its way back down the pan. That is when I noticed the small hairline crack right on the front side edge of the oil pan..... iPhone doesn't really show it, but up close you can just barely see a spot where the paint is cracked right on the edge (nearest the front cross-member.) Not sure if the previous dent weakened the area or what. Hoping it can be tigged in the car - don't really want to replace the pan since the motor was JUST out of the car! http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/o...97D48D9C52.jpg |
Damn Eric...your luck!!! :(
Any idea on how that pan got dented? From the latest R & R? |

Not sure on the dent really. I thought I remembered it having a few small dents when originally installed that were hammered out a little. The paint is not scuffed, scratched or anything to indicate it was hit when dropping it in the last time. The photo shows a dent and spot where the old paint flaked but the new paint is clean. I know one of the header tubes contacted the asphalt coming down the 75S/285E ramp but the pan looks clean so I wouldn't think that did it. Who knows, hopefully the guys at Mo's can tig it up for me with little issue. Not too worried about it. |
If not for bad luck you would have none ,hope its an easy fix.
